The 2017 Concerto Competition Winner

Katie Kim, violinist

Katie Kim is currently a second year Violin performance major at the University of California, Irvine. She began violin at the age of 11, and played in school orchestras all through middle school and high school. Katie has performed at Carnegie Hall with the Beckman High School Chamber Orchestra in 2013 and 2015. She has placed 2nd in the Southern Youth Music Festival. In 2014, she performed with the All Southern Orchestra at the Disneyland Resort Hotel. She completed the Certificate of Merit program her sophomore year of high school. Katie has studied under Eunhee Kim and is currently under the guidance of Professor Haroutune Bedelian at UCI. She plans to complete her undergraduate studies at UCI and continue on to post graduate studies in violin. Katie also enjoys performing in chamber groups in various outlets and enjoys playing her electric violin during her leisure time. During her spare time, she enjoys exercising, watching movies, and doing spontaneous things with her friends. She also enjoys listening to old vinyl records of jazz and classical musicians. Some of her favorites include music by Frank Sinatra, Dave Brubeck, Itzhak Perlman and Glenn Miller.
